In the summer we are based in Plymouth, UK, a good base to explore the West Country, the Channel Islands or Brittany.
A weekend trip may start with a short sail to Cawsand on the Friday night, only an hour’s sail across Plymouth Sound yet it feels like a world away. After a run ashore and a peaceful night at anchor we turn east to Salcombe or west to Fowey, both beautiful harbours to explore, stopping for lunch in a quiet cove for a swim or kneeboard. Or we may go further afield to historic Falmouth or Dartmouth, depending on the weather and inclination of the crew.
A longer trip means we can have a sail across the Channel, a milestone for some people, a chance to build miles and experience for others. The Channel Islands are a perennial favourite, from the tranquillity of Braye harbour in Alderney to the bustling St Peter Port in Guernsey. The north coast of Brittany has interesting navigation challenges and picturesque ports on the coast or up dramatic winding rivers, such as Morlaix or Trequier with delicious local food and of course the chance to stock up on good French wine and cheese (if it isn’t all eaten at lunch with that fresh baguette……..)
